The Misconceptions of Remy Hair
Virgin Remy hair also known as “cuticle” hair is non-chemically processed hair with all the aligned in the same direction. The cuticle is intact which generally prevents the hair from tangling and matting easily. If the cuticle does not flow in the same direction the hair rubs against each other, causes friction and the hair will tangle easily.
Remy is not a type of hair, it refers to the manner in which hair has been harvested from a donor’s head. The hair is cut in a manner which keeps the cuticle intact and tangle-free. This is considered excellent hair quality.
Over time, the term Remy has been inaccurately used as a brand of hair and not the true manner in which it was harvested. Because the term Remy has been misused amongst distributors, manufacturers and consumers, the term is generally divided in two categories; Remy hair and virgin Remy hair. Remy hair is non-cuticle hair which has undergone chemical processing for example, to alter the color or curl texture. Virgin Remy is non-chemically processed hair. The hair has not been chemically processed for texture or color. Once you chemically alter the hair, the cuticles are no longer intact.
